Today is the official first day of summer, and I feel like we are just getting started, too. Last week was Matthew and Jenny’s first week of summer vacation, but I was out of town. Tom had a conference to attend in Houston, and I decided last minute to go along, and thankfully my mom and Coyote made the sacrifice to come and watch the kids for four days while we were away. Tom and I had a blast on our first ever get-away! Some highlights of our trip –

our rental car – a Ford Mustang Convertible. This was so fun to have instead of an economy car, and made every little bit of driving exciting. SOOO glad we decided to go this way. Will definitely get another fun car the next time we rent a car.

our trip to Galveston – This was definitely my favorite part. We drove the hour or so from Houston one afternoon and spend a few hours at the beach. The temperature of the water was unbelievably warm, and the waves were extremely diverting. I felt like a kid again. The other part of the beach fun that was AMAZING were the little clams we found buried in the sand. Tom and I dug a couple of them up and were looking at them when suddenly they were digging themselves back in the sand. I am very excited about nature these days and this experience is giving me the added motivation to plan a vacation with our whole family to the beach. We are thinking San Diego next summer. Anyway. AMAZING fun here. If you are ever in Houston and have the chance to travel the hour to Galveston, do it.

The two computer stores in the Galleria – First the Microsoft Store

Then the Apple Store. We are Microsoft people, but Tom works exclusively with Apples at the school here, so we visited both stores and enjoyed each one for different reasons.

We also enjoyed a movie night in our hotel since there was nothing good showing in the theater. When we searched for a Walmart on our GPS we ended up at a SuperMercado Walmart. We didn’t go in because it was just a grocery store, but the next Walmart we went to we took advantage of the Hispanic influence and bought two of our favorite kinds of Mexican candy – the chili powder covered mango suckers and marzipan. Yummy!

We also spent a good portion of our trip at the conference Tom was going for. It was a conference about specific kinds of technology that are useful in helping students with special needs in the classroom. It was actually very interesting and I remembered after being there, how much I love learning new things. It was a wonderful trip! And we came home to happy kids and a clean house. What more could one ask for?!
