A few weeks before Lucy’s birthday, about present buying time, we asked Lucy what she wanted for her birthday. She answered, “A kitty.” So it got us thinking. Why didn’t have one? Or two? So these are the newest members of our family, not a great picture, I know. But maybe this gives you an idea of how cute these little guys are. Lucy named them affectionately Turkey and Lou. When it came down to it, they weren’t just for Lucy, so Matthew and Jenny picked them out. So we decided Lucy could name them. When we asked her what we should name them there was no pause. Just “Turkey and Lou.”
Here are a few pictures of Lucy loving the kitties. And Tommy thinks they are pretty awesome, but we are still working on teaching him to be gentle. AT LEAST the kitties are. Not long after we got them I went in to get Tommy out of his crib after his nap and one of the kitties was curled up next to him. The kitty seemed pretty happy, but Tommy has a fist full of dark kitty hair. AND. . . Lucy loves them so much that she treats them like her new little buddies. It may seem like we are letting these kitties get tortured, but believe me, Lucy has had many a lecture, time-outs, etc. to try to teach her that she can’t just pick them up whenever and however she wants to. I think she is learning.
And I have to include a picture of my big little boy. He will be nine months tomorrow. Can’t believe it. He is SO close to crawling and it is probably a good thing, too, because I noticed today that he has a blister on his big toe from the way he has been getting around, inch worm style.
Okay. Got a little off track there. Back to the birthday. We celebrated it twice. Once when my family was here last weekend and once this weekend with Aunt Jenn and Sam were here to visit. Only took video of last weekend and don’t want to bother with it at this point. HOPEfully in the future I will add it to this post.
This is Lucy sitting on her homemade birthday throne.
And these pictures crack me up. See for yourself. I love the one where she is picking in the cake.
And then she has been practicing this for months – the art of blowing out the candles. And you can see after several full hearted attempts, she finally did it.
And one of the gifts being unwrapped. She loved all of this. Celebrations are so much more fun with kids around.
