Matthew and Jenny have been testing for the Presidential Academic Physical Fitness in P.E. recently. A month or so ago their P.E. teacher sent home a paper with all the things they would be tested on and what the goal was that they should be working toward. So we have been doing lots or push-ups, sit-ups, pull-ups, running practice, stretching etc. at home to help them prepare and to have a little fun together.

So far they have both been doing fairly well at most things. Jenny came home a couple of days ago and said they did the testing for push-ups. We asked her how many she was supposed to have to qualify for Presidential. She said nine and then proceeded to tell us that in her group, she had the most and she did more than nine. When we asked her how many she did, she said she had done more than twenty when her teacher said she could stop whenever she wanted to. Then Matthew came home the next day after testing for the same thing and I guess the teacher told him the same thing when he reached thirty. Now the funny part about this is that we have watched our children do push-ups many times. Tom is funny and at random times will tell them to do their push-ups–usually five or so. But we have never really seen them do twenty or thirty. So we were both proud and a little surprised to hear this.
And a little about Lucy. She is learning quite a few new phrases and is starting to quite a few words together. She loves to greet Matthew and Jenny with, “Hi, guys!” She has also started adding some polite phrases. She loves to say thank you (kay-ku) when we do something for her and always adds the persons name to whom she is talking. I hear a lot of “Kay-ku, Mommy.” 🙂 She also has started asking for things with please. And the cutest thing about this is she knows that if she adds please, she is too cute to resist. Her newest love lately is raisins so I have heard a lot of “Mo raime. Pease, Mommy?” She is the light of our lives. She is so snuggly and is always giving hugs (and head leans). It is hard not to be happy when Lucy is around. She loves learning to say other people’s names and knows how to say most of our extended family and close friends’ names. One of her newest discoveries is that she doesn’t have to pretend to talk to people on the phone. The other day she brought me my phone and said, “Gama (Grandma), phone?” so we called my mom and Lucy talked for a minute. She is now eighteen months! I can’t believe how quickly the time has gone. So she has now entered the realm of nursery. She has only gone one week, but she did pretty well. I have a few videos I want to post in a bit so stay tuned.
