There are a quite a few things that we are trying to figure out in regards to our move to Mongolia, but there are two somewhat significant things that have happened recently that have been an answer to our prayers.
Lucy is just finishing up her junior year of high school and so she is leaving her senior year here in Kansas behind for Mongolia. That is a huge sacrifice for anyone to make. And I know she is pretty sad to say the least about it. And we have been trying to figure out how to help her receive a diploma while moving to the other side of the world. We thought about online schools that are accredited where you pay a bunch of money, kind of college. We’ve tried one of those in the past and it wasn’t amazing. We thought about a bunch of scenarios, but recently Tom decided to talk to our sister-in-law Jamie about it and see what options there might be through the school here. She reached out the dean of students at the high school and it turns out, that not only can Lucy finish her high school diploma through the high school she is currently going to through a program called Greenbush, but also that she can begin taking some of the courses now and finish up most likely shortly after we arrive in Mongolia. She will have only two and half courses left to complete after this school year. This is huge. I have a feeling that it will prove to be something even more important as we look back. Lucy turns 18 about six weeks after we will arrive in Mongolia and we will need to secure her own visa because she will be an adult. This may mean attending college in Mongolia so she can get a student visa.
Another thing that has been on our minds is what to do with our dog, Millie. She is turning fourteen on Tuesday and she is showing her age in a few ways. She has been with our family since she was one and it has been difficult thinking about not only leaving her behind, but also, to whom do we give her to to let her live out the remaining time she has? Who would even take an old dog knowing that she may not live long? She has had a couple of strokes and has arthritis and she can’t see very well. Of course she is slower than she used to be, but she is still such a good girl and has been such a blessing to our lives.
Tom was in Utah recently and was talking to his sister Cynthia about this and she offered to take Millie when we leave. She loves animals and I know she will be so kind to Millie. It feels so good to know that someone we love will be loving our Millie.
We are waiting for more answers to come, but are confident in time, we will receive them.
