This year on Jenny’s eighth birthday we didn’t have a huge party—at least not the kind with decorations and a big crowd. We were moving on and around Jenny’s birthday so that day for her and us was a working day. We tried to make it special how we could. I made brownies for the “cake” she requested. I didn’t make her birthday dinner until about a week later, but thankfully a wonderful family in our ward invited us over for dinner that night and we sang to Jenny and she got to blow out a candle. She had a very good attitude about it. She told me she was very lucky because not only was she getting the normal presents for her birthday, but she was getting a new house. That night LATE, after we had tried to settle into our new home and put the little ones to bed, we had Jenny open her presents. She is quite the girl and instead of being sad or disappointed, was just so grateful.
This was an extra special birthday for Jenny because she turned eight. She made the choice of being baptized in the font at our little chapel so she could invite her school teachers to the baptism. Before she made this choice, she thought about getting baptized at our reunion or in the river. She also made the decision a few months before her birthday to read the Book of Mormon before she was baptized. She read every day for about a half hour. I think she was reading quite a few pages every day.
Both sets of grandparents came to the baptism, as well as Aunt Jenn, Sam, and also Aunt Hannah, Uncle Nic, and Aunt Coyote. A bunch of people from the ward also showed up to support her. She had her Grandma Pieper talk and Aunt Hannah and Lucy sing.
Jenny Wren is such a sweet girl. She is always doing something kind for someone else in our family or one of her friends or teachers. She loves to create things. The possibilities are endless for this girl as she is very self-motivated. She has quite the sense of humor, too. Tom recently got an iPhone and when he brought it home, Jenny told him it looked like a can of sardines just to tease him. She is so great at pitching in and helping me cook dinner or taking care of her little brother or sister. She still loves to read and we can’t keep enough books around for her to read. We are so proud of her and the decision she made to be baptized and the other decisions she is continuing to make. We love you, Jenny Wren!
