Matthew requests pie almost every year in place of his birthday cake. This year he requested a pear pie and it was delicious with the recipe my mom used to make when I was growing up. Thanks for the recipe, Mom! It turned out so well and the pie did not last long. It never does. Matthew asked that I decorate the top of the cherry pie to stand for Happy Birthday, Matthew! I have to say, these are the best pies I have made yet.
Matthew also had a friend party the day after his birthday. All of the kids in his class at school came but one. So we had seven extra kids at our house for three hours. It was really fun actually. I wish I would have taken pictures. We started out with origami and folded some frogs and airplanes. The remainder of the time, the kids played tag outside. Tom supervised and also played tag, too. I think it was a pretty simple party since I am not into planning for such things, but I know the kids had a lot of fun.
Oh. I forgot another fun element of the party. I bought a bag of balloons at the dollar store and Tom blew all of them up. I know my own kids thought it was heaven, Lucy and Tommy included. They have more fun with little things and their imaginations. This is a tower Matthew made with balloons. He used static electricity to help keep them up.
